Setup and compatibility

Cameras and printers for FotoboxSuite

FotoboxSuite connects a local Windows app to a camera, live view, photo capture and printing. This overview helps you assess your existing setup and check the appropriate functions before an event.

What does “supported” mean for a photo booth camera?

Three distinctions matter for a reliable decision. Manufacturer SDK support means that the manufacturer lists the model for its programming interface. Software integration means that FotoboxSuite uses this interface for discovery, live view and capture. A Hardware test checks the complete workflow with a real camera, its lens, firmware and the specific Windows computer.

Successfully loading a camera library or passing an automated software check does not replace a hardware test. This overview therefore makes no blanket promise for every Canon, Nikon or Sony camera.

Which camera interfaces are integrated?

Camera overview with separate support and testing status
Camera or familyManufacturer SDKFotoboxSuite integrationReal hardware test
Canon EOS 200DIncluded in the EDSDK 13.20.11 model list.Canon integration for discovery, live view, JPEG capture and image transfer is available.Earlier user feedback: capture with manual focus worked. Autofocus caused a hang at that time. No new complete hardware test of the current version is documented.
Canon EOS R100Included in EDSDK 13.20.11. Canon documents SDK capture support from version 13.17.0.Uses the same Canon integration. Successful discovery must be checked with the connected device. No complete capture, autofocus and endurance test with this camera is documented.
Canon EOS 1200D and EOS 1300DBoth models are listed in EDSDK 13.20.11.Canon integration is available. The required functions must be checked with the specific model. No complete in-house hardware test of these two models is documented.
Other Canon EOS and PowerShot camerasCheck the model and available functions in Canon's SDK list. Some EOS M models do not support remote capture through it.Suitable Canon cameras that are detected can be used through EDSDK.Being listed in the SDK does not constitute FotoboxSuite approval for the model.
Nikon Z, including the first-generation Z6The local Remote SDK 2.0.0 documentation explicitly lists the Z6 and other Z models. Manufacturer requirements: 64-bit Windows 11 and the Visual C++ 2022 runtime.Separate Nikon Z integration for discovery, live view, capture and transfer is available. No complete hardware test with every listed Nikon Z is documented. The Z6, Z6II and Z6III are different models.
Nikon D610, D750, D5600, D7200, D500, D7500, D850, D780 and Nikon 1 V3Separate Nikon MAID modules for these models are included in the current local package.Module-based integration is available in addition to the Z interface.SDK initialisation and application logic have been checked. A complete capture test with all real models is not documented.
Sony, for example the Alpha 6700 and Alpha 7 IVThe ILCE-6700 and ILCE-7M4 are examples from the list for the Camera Remote SDK 2.02.00 in use.Sony integration for discovery, live view, JPEG transfer and model-specific focus control is available. Cameras requiring SDK SSH authentication are currently not connected. No complete hardware test for all SDK models is documented. Check USB mode, firmware and available functions individually.
Sony Alpha 6000 / ILCE-6000Not included in the SDK model list in use.The current Sony SDK integration therefore does not establish support for this model. The Alpha 6000 is not the Alpha 6700.No FotoboxSuite approval through this SDK route. Clarify specific support before use.
USB webcam and integrated Windows cameraWindows camera access instead of the manufacturer SDK.Selectable as a camera recognised by Windows. Preview and capture depend on the device and the functions it provides.Software workflows have been checked with an integrated camera. This does not establish compatibility with every webcam or guarantee studio flash support.

Canon EOS 200D and autofocus: Earlier successful manual capture is documented user experience. Subsequent software corrections and automated checks validate the application logic tested. Current autofocus behaviour with a real lens still needs a separate test.

What does the camera connection require?

Studio is provided for 64-bit Windows. For the current Nikon Z and Sony SDKs listed here, the manufacturers specify Windows 11 as the supported environment. The app's operating-system specification alone therefore does not establish support for every manufacturer interface under Windows 10.

  1. Check the exact camera model and firmware. Connect the powered-on camera with a suitable USB data cable and stable power supply.
  2. Select the remote mode specified by the camera manufacturer. Depending on the Sony model, the “PC Remote” setting is required. Use the drivers and runtime components needed by the model.
  3. Close other applications already accessing the camera, such as EOS Utility, NX Tether or Imaging Edge. A camera connection held by another application can prevent access.
  4. Select the camera actually detected in Studio. Check live view, several complete captures and subsequent image output.
  5. Test autofocus and manual focus with the lens in use, the intended distance and event lighting. Also test failed focusing and the next capture afterwards.

Flash, power-saving mode, memory card, USB hub and cable are also part of the real setup. Studio flash needs an appropriate trigger connection on the camera. Using a webcam does not imply flash control.

Which printers work with FotoboxSuite?

FotoboxSuite prints through the explicitly selected printer installed in Windows. The software reads paper formats and resolutions from the driver and uses its saved settings. This does not establish blanket compatibility with all photo printer models.

Install the appropriate Windows driver from the printer manufacturer and first make a Windows test print. Then assign layout formats to a printer in FotoboxSuite. For example, you can prepare one printer for 10 × 15 cm output and another for double strips. Each layout format requires exactly one printer assignment.

Print output and requirements
OutputSoftware featureCheck on the actual printer
10 × 15 cm, portrait or landscapePrepared layout formats. The Windows driver must offer the selected paper format.Paper and ribbon, borderless settings, orientation, framing and actual output format.
Double strips 5 × 15 cmA digital strip is placed twice on a shared sheet for printing.Appropriate sheet format and a suitable cutting function or manual cutting.
DPI and custom formatsResolutions and paper formats are taken from the installed driver. Layout pixels and printer DPI are separate specifications. The driver must report the desired resolution. A larger number alone does not create additional image resolution or a supported paper format.
Automatic strip cuttingThe cutting function is configured in the original Windows driver dialog and saved for strip printing. The printer, media and driver must offer cutting. A physical test with a cutting unit is not documented for this overview.

After a driver change, saved driver settings may become invalid. Reopen printer settings in Studio and save them to match the installed driver. For strips, explicitly select driver cutting or manual cutting.

Understanding print status: Submitting a job to Windows does not confirm physical paper output. Check the printer if paper runs out, errors occur or a job's outcome is uncertain. Jobs with an uncertain outcome are not automatically printed again, as this could create duplicate prints.

How to check a setup before an event

Run the complete guest workflow with the planned event: live view, countdown, all photos, layout, printing and QR sharing. Check sharpness and the print, repeat the workflow and then test a restart. If the event will run without internet, also follow the test in the offline operation and backup guide.

For a specific compatibility enquiry, useful details include the camera model, lens, firmware, Windows version, app version, printer model, driver version and desired output format. Describe your setup in the help areabefore buying a new camera or printer for this use.

Manufacturer sources for reference

Model details were checked against the documentation for the SDK versions actually in use. Public manufacturer pages may now also describe newer SDKs: Canon EOS Digital SDK and model overview, Nikon Remote SDK and release notes and Sony Camera Remote SDK and supported devices. These sources establish manufacturer support, not FotoboxSuite's own hardware certification.
